Firm Profile

My law firm is committed to providing friendly, individualized service.  We get to know you as a person, so that we can tailor our services and your documents to your particular circumstances. I am known for my attention to detail.

My experiences in helping to care for my mother during her 16 years of decline due to Alzheimer's disease provide me with insights and perspectives that I bring to my Estate Planning and Elder Law practice. I have over 25 years of experience addressing the particular issues and concerns of lesbians, gay men, and transgender persons.

I graduated cum laude from St. Louis University Law School (1974), and founded my law firm in 1987, after six years as an attorney in Legal Services, and six years in a private practice partnership. I have advocated for civil liberties, civil rights, and social justice throughout my law practice, and, indeed, since my early high school years. My advocacy for civil rights has included litigation, drafting and lobbying for civil rights legislation, writing newspaper commentaries, speaking to community groups, and authoring two books.  I have received numerous awards for my advocacy for justice.

Linda Lewis, a paralegal, has been employed by the firm since 1995. She has an Associate Degree in Applied Science - Legal Assistant (St. Louis Community College, 1994), and a B.A. in Criminology and Criminal Justice (University of Missouri - St. Louis, 1994).

My practice concentrations are:
  • Estate Planning (which includes Wills, Trusts,  Medicaid Planning, Supplemental Needs/Special Needs Trusts, Powers of Attorney,  Real Estate Deeds, Beneficiary Deeds, Living Wills, and documents to transfer assets outside of probate)
  • Elder Law
  • Adoptions (step-parent adoptions, including by same-sex couples)
  • Name Changes and Gender Marker Changes
  • Probate (on a case-by-case basis)
For more information about the matters I handle, see the "Practice Areas" section of this website, or click on the particular practice area listed on the left side of this page.

Free notary services are provided as a service to established clients. We usually return telephone calls the same day, but no later than two business days.  We accept Visa, Mastercard, and Discover.  Fees vary by type of case.  Please contact me if you wish more information about fees for a particular matter.

The office is conveniently located on Olive Blvd. in Olivette, St. Louis County, Missouri, 0.6 miles west of  I-170 and 1.3 miles east of Lindbergh.
